BRUSSELS, MAY 13 /SRNA/ - European airlines have started to cancel some flights due to the sharp rise in jet fuel prices, which is making some routes unprofitable, said Apostolos Tzitzikostas, the European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism.
"There is currently no shortage of jet fuel in the EU and no indication that there will be one in the immediate future," Tzitzikostas told reporters in Brussels, during the presentation of the European package of initiatives "One Trip, One Ticket, All Rights", aimed at simplifying travel reservations and rail transport across Europe.
He added that the real problem is the current increase in fuel prices, which is causing a considerable number of airlines to cancel certain flights that are no longer financially viable.
