LAS VEGAS, OCTOBER 14 /SRNA/ - Duane Davis has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for orchestrating the murder of legendary rap star Tupac Shakur, three decades after the rapper's death shocked people around the world.
Davis, also known as Keffe D, is a former leader of the South Side Compton Crips gang. He was found guilty of first-degree murder on August 31 for orchestrating the 1996 killing of Shakur and his producer near Las Vegas.
"The world has never forgotten him or his death, and neither has Las Vegas. It took us 30 years, but justice has been served for a crime that took place on September 7, 1996," Chief Judge Carli Kierny said after sentencing.
Davis is the only person to have been charged in connection with Shakur's death.
He has spoken openly about his involvement in Shakur's murder in interviews, documentaries and podcasts. In 2019, he published a memoir in which he presented his version of events.
Shakur was 25 and at the peak of his career when he was killed.
