MANILA, JUNE 10 /SRNA/ - The death toll from the 7.8-magnitude earthquake in the Philippines has risen to 53, GMA News reported, citing the fire department.
According to previously published data, 45 people died in the earthquake, TASS reported.
The Department of Civil Defense previously reported that 630 people were injured, and that 10 were listed as missing.
The earthquake struck the southern coast of the island of Mindanao on Monday morning, June 8. It was initially reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 8.1.
Local authorities reported damage to 2,500 houses, of which 460 were completely destroyed. A state of emergency was declared in the city of General Santos.
More than 145,000 residents of this Philippine region were affected by the disaster.
