CHINA TIGHTENS ENTRY AND EXIT REGULATIONS

BEIJING, SEPTEMBER 15 /SRNA/ – China has tightened its entry and exit rules in order to ensure security and protect the rights of travellers entering or leaving the country, the State Council said.

“The purpose of the regulations is to protect the legitimate rights of travellers entering and leaving the country, as well as to safeguard national sovereignty, security and development interests,” the State Council cited in a statement.

The competent authorities will issue travel risk warnings concerning certain countries. Chinese citizens who commit offences abroad or violate export control regulations may be prohibited from leaving the country for a period of six months to three years.

Foreign nationals who provide false information when applying for a visa or at the border may be banned from entering China for a period of one to five years.

Mandatory registration is being introduced for intermediaries involved in organising travel. Fines ranging from USD 750 to USD 7,500 for illegal activities, RIA Novosti reported.
