BUS CRASH KILLS 25 PEOPLE

PRAIA, SEPTEMBER 6 /SRNA/ — Twenty-five passengers died in a bus crash in Cape Verde, mostly children and teenagers, local media report.

Reports said that many people were injured.

The bus, which was carrying children and teenagers on a school trip, slid off the road in the north of Fogo Island and plunged down a steep cliff about 30 meters deep.

The cause of the crash is not yet known. The bus driver was also among those killed, DPA reported.

The rescue operation was hampered by the difficult terrain. The bus landed on rocky ground, and rescue vehicles could not reach the crash site directly.

Cape Verde is an island country in the Atlantic Ocean, off the coast of West Africa.
