BUILDING COLLAPSE LEAVES ONE DEAD

NEW DELHI, SEPTEMBER 6 /SRNA/ — At least one person was killed and several others have been trapped after a building collapsed in New Delhi, officials said.

The five-storey building, which housed a boys' hostel, collapsed in the densely populated Satya Niketan area near the University of Delhi campus.

Authorities have not specified how many people remain trapped, but news agency PTI reported that dozens of people live in the building.

Officials said at least two people had been hospitalised in critical condition.

MP Anil Sharma said several people had been rescued and that some of those trapped had called for help by phone, with rescuers maintaining contact with them.

Police, firefighters and disaster response teams are currently searching through the ruins.
