BIJELJINA, JUNE 11 /SRNA/ - German Jewish girl Annelies Marie Frank, known as Anne Frank /1929–1945/, who became a symbol of Jewish suffering during World War II, was born on June 12, 1929.
Anne was the author of the famous `The Diary of Anne Frank,` one of the most moving testimonies to the suffering of the Jewish people under Nazi persecution during World War II.
The Germans systematically exterminated Jews in Germany and in all occupied countries across Europe.
After the Nazis came to power in Germany in 1933, Anne's family fled to Amsterdam, where they lived in a secret hiding place from 1942, but were discovered by the Gestapo in 1944.
She was killed in March 1945 in the Nazi concentration camp Bergen-Belsen, and Anne's father was the only member of her family to survive the war.
After World War II, her moving diary was discovered and published in 1947.
Anne wrote it during the two years she spent in hiding.
