SARAJEVO, OCTOBER 9 /SRNA/ - The Bundestag has lifted the immunity of Social Democratic Party of Germany /SPD/ lawmaker and Hanover party chairperson Adis Ahmetović, who is being investigated by prosecutors over suspected complicity in anti-competitive arrangements linked to the sale of land belonging to a clinic in Lehrte.
It was confirmed that the investigation is part of a broader affair involving the clinic in Lehrte, in which two other SPD politicians had already come under investigation - outgoing Hanover regional president Steffen Krach and Stefan Politze, Sarajevo-based portal Klix reported.
According to NDR, the suspicions involve accepting improper benefits, agreements restricting competition in tenders and disclosure of confidential information, as well as aiding and inciting those offences.
Both politicians deny the allegations.
Prosecutors have declined to disclose details in the interest of the investigation.
Ahmetović has been a member of the Bundestag since 2021.
