MILIĆEVIĆ: SCIENTIFIC COOPERATION IMPORTANT FOR STRONGER TIES AMONG SERBS

BELGRADE/BANJA LUKA, OCTOBER 9 /SRNA/ - Cooperation among scientists and intellectuals from Serbia, Republika Srpska and the diaspora is an important part of further strengthening ties among the Serbian people, said Đorđe Milićević, minister without portfolio in the caretaker government responsible for relations with the diaspora.

Speaking at the event "A Bridge of Knowledge - Science and Knowledge in the Service of the Unity and Future of the Serbian People" in Banja Luka, Milićević said the Drina was not a border that divides, but a backbone connecting Serbia and Republika Srpska.

"The unity of the Serbian people is strengthened by history, language, culture and tradition, and today also by knowledge - through joint research, the exchange of ideas and scientific work," Milićević said.

He said one of the goals of the gathering was also to build scientific bridges with other peoples in the region and around the world, because a people capable of connecting its own knowledge has more to offer others as well.

Milićević said that at a time of major political, economic and technological change, knowledge was becoming one of the most important resources of every state and every people, and that science was one of the most important safeguards of the future.

"Our response must be greater connectivity. We must build a network of people, institutions, knowledge and projects that will permanently link the Republic of Serbia, Republika Srpska and our scientists around the world," Milićević said.
