CARACAS, JUNE 27 /SRNA/ – A new earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale has struck off the coast of Venezuela's Aragua state, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre /EMSC/ annonced.
According to the EMSC, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 35 kilometres and approximately 76 kilometres from the epicentral area of the two devastating earthquakes that struck near Caracas earlier.
There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage resulting from the latest earthquake.
Two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale struck Venezuela on Thursday, June 25, less than one minute apart.
The capital, Caracas, and its surrounding area were the hardest hit.
Acting President Delcy Rodríguez declared a state of emergency and urged residents to evacuate damaged buildings because of the risk of aftershocks.
