PALE, OCTOBER 30 /SRNA/ – Zorana Mijović from Pale won the title of world vice champion in powerlifting today at the World Championship in Hungary, which brought together more than 700 competitors from 70 countries.
Mijović achieved outstanding results in below 56 kilogram category, competing in the combination of squat, bench press, and deadlift.
In the deadlift discipline, she lifted 162.5 kilograms, while in the bench press, she set a new national record.
"Unfortunately, the judges unnecessarily disqualified my third deadlift attempt, favoring the local competitor, but this medal is still proof that with perseverance, hard work, and sportsmanship, you can reach the top of the world," Mijović told SRNA, expressing gratitude to everyone for their support.
Mijović said that she and her husband Tomislav went through three exhausting days full of challenges, with little sleep and almost no food.
Zorana's remarkable sporting achievement was supported by Ljubiša Ćosić, the Mayor of East Sarajevo, as well as Dejan Kojić, the Mayor of Pale, and Miloš Vukašinović, Deputy Speaker of the Pale Municipal Assembly.
The 33-year-old Zorana is the only woman in the Istočno Sarajevo area engaged in powerlifting, and in just four years of intensive training and competition, she has managed to become the champion of BiH.
Her dedication, discipline, and determination to succeed serve as an inspiration to young athletes.
