VUČIĆ PRESENTS CANDLEMAS ORDER TO SELAK

BELGRADE, FEBRUARY 16 /SRNA/ – Republika Srpska Justice Minister Goran Selak today received in Belgrade a high state decoration of Serbia – the Candlemas Order, First Class.

The order was presented to Selak on the occasion of Candlemas – Serbia's Statehood Day – by the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, for special merits in developing and strengthening cooperation between Serbia and Republika Srpska.

The award was presented at a ceremony held at the Palace of Serbia, attended by officials from Republika Srpska and Serbia, as well as numerous guests.

Candlemas is also marked as the Statehood Day of Republika Srpska, and this year’s slogan is "Unity and Pride".

Candlemas is celebrated as Statehood Day in remembrance of February 15, 1804, when the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman Empire was launched under the leadership of Karađorđe, and of the same date in 1835, when the first constitution of the Principality of Serbia, known as the Candlemas Constitution, was adopted in Kragujevac.
