BANJA LUKA, FEBRUARY 28 /SRNA/ – The Speaker of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, Nenad Stevandić, told SRNA that 34 years after the adoption of the first Constitution of Republika Srpska testify to its statehood, emphasizing that Republika Srpska remains permanent and indisputable with its institutions.
"Only state-forming nations mark the anniversaries of their constitutions, statehood days and assembly days. The marking of 35 years of the National Assembly and 34 years of the Constitution testifies to the statehood and centuries-long presence of our people in these areas," Stevandić said.
He stated that Republika Srpska has lasted much longer than the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and many other entities that had a temporary character.
"Only those republics founded on the will of the people have a lasting character, and the will of the Serb people has been defined for 35 years through the Constitution, the National Assembly, and the functioning of Republika Srpska despite all challenges, threats, and attempts at obstruction," Stevandić pointed out.
He stressed that Republika Srpska remains permanent and inviolable with its institutions and Constitution.
The Assembly of the Serb People of BiH adopted the Constitution on February 28, 1992, which was unanimously adopted on the foundations of the founding Declaration and guaranteed full equality and equal rights of the peoples and citizens of the Republic.
The highest legal act of Republika Srpska, which remains in force today with certain amendments, was adopted before the outbreak of the tragic conflicts and the unilateral declaration of BiH independence by Bosniaks and Croats following the referendum held on March 1, in which Serbs did not participate.
