KALINOVIK, SEPTEMBER 6 /SRNA/ — The Mayor of Kalinovik Radomir Sladoje has stated that 31 years ago NATO killed civilians in Kalinovik and surrounding villages, targeted Republika Srpska Army guardsmen and barracks, and destroyed the civilian water supply system in the bombing.
Sladoje said Kalinovik would never forget those who lost their lives.
"Back then, our small Kalinovik was bombed. NATO's most advanced aircraft came to intimidate the people here. What is most puzzling to us is that the civilian water supply was bombed. I do not know why that was done," Sladoje said.
He added that the bombing was most likely deliberate, as no one had come to help resolve the problem with the reservoir to this day.
"They would probably have had to admit their responsibility," Sladoje added.
He expressed his grief for all the Serb victims who lost their lives, not only in Kalinovik but also on the surrounding battlefields and along the defense lines of Republika Srpska.
Today in Kalinovik, the Association of Guardsmen of the First Guards Motorized Brigade of the Republika Srpska Army General Staff marked the 31st anniversary of the NATO bombing of the brigade's facilities and positions, as well as the territory of Kalinovik Municipality.
