BANJALUKA, JANUARY 26 /SRNA/ – On the occasion of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the Palace of the Republic in Banja Luka this evening has displayed a number representing the 6,000,000 Jews who perished in the Holocaust.
Beneath the number is the message "We Remember," part of a global remembrance campaign launched by the World Jewish Congress several years ago.
Each year, more people and institutions around the world join this campaign to pay tribute to the victims and affirm that their memory will be preserved forever.
The campaign’s aim is to honor the victims in a dignified manner and to ensure that such atrocities against one nation are never repeated.
International Holocaust Remembrance Day was established on November 1, 2005 by the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly.
The Holocaust Remembrance Day is especially commemorated in European countries where 53 million people lost their lives during World War II, including nearly 31 million civilians.
