REGULAR FLOOD DEFENSE MEASURES INTRODUCED IN SEMBERIJA

BIJELJINA, JANUARY 6 /SRNA/ - Regular flood defense measures have been introduced in Semberija, Vode Srpske told SRNA.

The director of the public institution Vode Srpske, Miroslav Milovanović, previously told SRNA that another wave of rising water levels on the Drina River, downstream from the Zvornik Hydropower Plant, is expected, which is expected to lead to the introduction of regular flood defense measures in Semberija, and very likely emergency measures as well.

He stated that the water level of the Drina River at the Radalj gauging station was 445 centimeters at 15:00.

Regular flood defense measures for the lower course of the Drina are introduced when the water level at the Radalj station reaches 450 centimeters, and emergency flood defense measures are introduced at 500 centimeters.

“But we have already, at a water level of 445 centimeters, initiated the procedure for introducing regular flood defense measures in the flood-prone area of Semberija for Sector 1,” Milovanović explained in a statement to SRNA.

He emphasized that it is encouraging that the rainfall in Montenegro and in the upper course of the Drina stopped a few hours ago, which will have a positive effect downstream.

“We need to remain composed, everyone doing their part, and based on the current hydrological and meteorological assessments, we do not expect major problems,” Milovanović emphasized.
