VIENNA, FEBRUARY 16 /SRNA/ - A formal reception was held today in Vienna on the occasion of Sretenje/Candlemass, the Statehood Day of Serbia and the Statehood Day of Republika Srpska, highlighting the importance of unity and solidarity, as well as the support of Austrian institutions for this event.
The Head of the Republika Srpska Representative Office in Austria, Mladen Filipović, told SRNA that the reception was attended by a large number of guests from the diplomatic corps, business sector, Serbian Diaspora and their associations, and the Serbian Orthodox Church. The Speaker of the Austrian Parliament, Walter Rosenkranz, delivered the ceremonial speech.
Filipović emphasized that this was a great honor for the Serbian community, the diplomatic corps, and the Republika Srpska Representative Office, as a high-ranking Austrian official supported the event, which the Embassy of Serbia organized with the support of the Republika Srpska Representative Office.
“It is significant that this joint holiday of Republika Srpska and Serbia is also celebrated in Vienna, where a large number of our people live and work, and with the support of Austrian institutions. This is especially important because Sretenje/Candlemass is the most important holiday for the Serbian people, and we have demonstrated unity and solidarity, showing that the Drina River is our backbone,” Filipović said.
He added that the support of Austrian institutions for such an event is extremely important.
