TREBINJE, FEBRUARY 2 /SRNA/ - The Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations in the Council of Ministers, Staša Košarac, said that the production of olive oil at the Tvrdoš Monastery is planned to be improved through the acquisition of Italian equipment, seedlings, and branding.
“The quality of the monastery’s extra virgin olive oil has been recognized not only domestically but also internationally, as evidenced by the gold medal at a prestigious international competition in New York,” Košarac wrote on Instagram.
Košarac, together with partners from the Mediterranean Agronomic Institute /CIHEAM/ from Bari, visited today the Tvrdoš Monastery, where he discussed models of support for olive oil production with Hieromonk Porfirije.
“Visiting the Tvrdoš Monastery always brings me renewed spiritual joy, tranquility, and peace. This holy site is the guardian of our spirituality and tradition,” Košarac emphasized.
He said that during the visit, they also discussed ways to support the construction of an olive oil mill, and pointed out that Herzegovina has excellent conditions for olive cultivation, with a growing number of people choosing to plant olives.
“Currently, there are around 8,000 olive trees in Trebinje, and the increased interest in this sector of agriculture indicates that olive growing could become one of the hallmarks of southern Srpska, alongside wine production,” Košarac said.
