BIJELJINA, AUGUST 29 /SRNA/ — NATO aircraft began a series of large-scale attacks on military and civilian targets in Republika Srpska on August 30, 1995, committing war crimes.

More than 100 civilians were killed during the days-long bombardment, in which radioactive munitions were also used, according to the report.

The bombing was carried out with the stated "justification" that it was intended to "bring the Serbs to the negotiating table."

With NATO air support, Croat and Muslim forces captured approximately 4,000 square kilometers in western Republika Srpska, forcing more than 170,000 Serbs to flee the area.

On the first day of the bombing, the air defense of the Army of Republika Srpska shot down a French Mirage 2000 aircraft near Pale. The two pilots ejected and survived.

September 9 is observed in Republika Srpska as the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the NATO bombing, which Alliance forces carried out from August 30 to September 14, 1995, across the territory of BiH without authorization from the UN Security Council.

NATO forces dropped a total of 1,026 bombs on Republika Srpska, including 13 Tomahawk cruise missiles, while the total weight of the explosives dropped was approximately 10,000 tons.

The initiative to establish the Day of Remembrance for the victims of the NATO bombing was launched in Andrićgrad on August 26, 2018, at the proposal of the Republika Srpska News Agency - SRNA.
