MOSCOW: ANTI-SERB BIAS DEMONSTRATED IN GENERAL MLADIĆ’S CASE AT THE HAGUE

MOSCOW, AUGUST 27 /SRNA – RIA Novosti/ - The Russian Foreign Ministry expressed its deepest condolences following the death of former Republika Srpska Army commander General Ratko Mladić, and stressed that his case demonstrated the anti-Serb bias of the Hague Tribunal and the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals, its legal successor.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased,” the ministry said in a statement.

The ministry said that General Mladić’s case was a manifestation of the double standards and anti-Serb bias of the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.

In June, Russia also called at a UN Security Council meeting for the Mechanism to allow General Mladić to be temporarily released so that he could receive medical treatment in Serbia.

General Ratko Mladić, wartime commander of the Main Staff of the Republika Srpska Army, died at a detention hospital in The Hague at the age of 83.

General Mladić had been in a detention hospital in The Hague since 2024, where he had been bedridden for the past year and a half, while the Mechanism for International Criminal Tribunals in The Hague ignored calls for him to be released on humanitarian grounds to receive treatment in Serbia.

The Mechanism said that its President, Graciela Gatti Santana, “ordered an investigation into the death of General Mladić at the detention hospital in The Hague.”
