LAW ON REAL RIGHTS DOES NOT FAVOUR OR DISCRIMINATE AGAINST ANYONE

BANJA LUKA, FEBRUARY 13 /SRNA/ – The Law on Amendments to the Law on Real Rights of Republika Srpska has no ethnic prefix and applies equally to all citizens; it contains no provisions that discriminate against or favour any of the constituent peoples or those categorized as "Others," the Republika Srpska National Assembly's Constitutional Affairs Committee stated in its response to the Council protecting vital interest of the Srpska Constitutional Court.

"We believe that the request submitted by the Bosniak People Caucus in the Council of Peoples of Srpska, challenging this law, is not grounded in the Republika Srpska Constitution and that, in this specific case, the vital national interest of any constituent people has not been violated," the Committee on Constitutional Affairs emphasized in its response.

The Committee pointed out that the law, neither through any of its provisions nor by its essence, makes distinctions between categories of persons exercising rights arising from it based on the people to which they belong, the National Assembly announced.

The Committee session was chaired by its chair, Nenad Stevandić, who is also the Speaker of the National Assembly.

The Bosniak People Caucus in the Council of Peoples submitted a request to the Constitutional Court of Republika Srpska to determine whether the vital national interest of the Bosniak people was violated by the Law on Amendments to the Law on Real Rights, which was adopted at the 17th regular session of the National Assembly on December 24 last year.
