SARAJEVO, JUNE 30 /SRNA/ – Deputy Chairperson of the Council of Ministers Staša Košarac said that it is an indisputable truth that Serbs are the most suffering people of the Middle Podrinje and Birač regions, regardless of efforts by others to rewrite history and impose the label of a "genocidal people".
Košarac said that the decision of the Government of Republika Srpska to declare July 4 a Day of Mourning sends a strong message that Republika Srpska preserves the truth, dignity and memory of its innocent victims in Middle Podrinje and Birač.
He noted that on Saturday, July 4, in Bratunac, the 34th anniversary of the suffering of 3,267 Serb victims from Middle Podrinje and Birač will be marked, who, he said, were brutally killed by members of the so-called Army of BiH.
He stressed that on that day Serbs remember not only one of the most tragic periods of modern national history, but also fathers, mothers, children, brothers and sisters whose lives were lost solely because they belonged to the Serb people.
"We go to Bratunac to pay respect to the victims, to preserve the truth and to testify that the Serb people will never forget their martyrs," Košarac wrote on Instagram.
He said that crimes against innocent children, women and men were a continuation of the systematic destruction of Serbs throughout the 20th century.
"We were killed on the biggest Orthodox holidays, in the most brutal and monstrous ways," Košarac said, adding that it is especially painful that no one has been held accountable for the suffering of Serbs in this region.
He said families of victims have been waiting for justice for more than three decades, adding that the prosecution of war crimes against Serbs has been completely politicized under a Sarajevo-based pattern and with the support of part of the international community.
Their sacrifice, as he stated, obliges continued preservation of Republika Srpska as the greatest achievement of the Serb people west of the Drina River and a guarantee of survival, freedom and the right of Serbs to live in their homes.
