BANJA LUKA, JUNE 20 /SRNA/ – Operation Corridor 92, thanks to the courage of the Republika Srpska Army /RSA/ soldiers, opened a road of life and salvation for the Serb people west of the Drina River, Republika Srpska President Siniša Karan stressed.

Karan stressed that this major operation to break through the Posavina corridor determined the future of Republika Srpska, its connection with Serbia, and the survival of the Serb people on their ancestral lands.

“For that reason, the ‘Corridor of Life’ goes beyond the framework of a military operation, because it was a battle for life, for oxygen, medicine, and food for the people in the western part of Republika Srpska, who had been left at the mercy of world powers,” Karan told SRNA on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of Operation Corridor 92.

Recalling that the operation was triggered by inhumane and uncivilized decision of world powers in 1992 to prevent the transport of oxygen to Banja Luka, resulting in the deaths of 12 newborn babies at the Clinical Centre, Karan said the tragedy served as a wake-up call and made it clear that a breakthrough of the corridor was essential for survival and salvation.

“It could not be allowed for another newborn child to die because of the inhumane actions of world powers that had assumed the right to decide over life and death. Our soldiers embarked on yet another struggle for life in order to stop any further loss of children’s lives,” Karan said.

He emphasized that the innocent deaths of the newborn babies and the courage of Serb soldiers oblige everyone in Republika Srpska to preserve the Republic, its institutions, its constitutional and legal status, and its right to determine its own future.

“Freedom is not free; it comes at a high price. That is why Republika Srpska does not forget its heroes or its victims. It is our responsibility to be worthy of their sacrifice, to preserve the truth about it, and to pass it on to future generations.

As long as we remember the ‘Corridor of Life’ and honour those who gave the most they had for Republika Srpska, it will endure as the greatest testament and the most lasting monument to their love for Republika Srpska,” Karan concluded.
