KOZARSKA DUBICA, APRIL 27 /SRNA/ - The Speaker of the Republika Srpska National Assembly, Nenad Stevandić, said that preserving the memory of the victims, as well as the breakout of the inmates from Jasenovac, is a fundamental duty to prevent history from repeating itself.

"The culture of remembrance is not only a reflection of respect for the victims but also an obligation to pass the truth about our suffering onto future generations," Stevandić wrote on X.

Stevandić attended the commemoration of the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Genocide against Serbs, Jews, and Roma in the Independent State of Croatia, as well as the 80th anniversary of the breakout of inmates from the Jasenovac concentration camp, at the Memorial Area Donja Gradina near Kozarska Dubica.

As part of the commemoration, wreaths were laid at the Topole Burial Field in the Memorial Area Donja Gradina for the half a million Serbs, 40,000 Roma, and 33,000 Jews killed in the Jasenovac concentration camp system of the Independent State of Croatia /NDH/.

A memorial service was held at the plateau next to the Topole burial field in the Memorial Area Donja Gradina for the victims of the Ustasha crime — the genocide of the NDH.

As part of the commemoration, a history lesson was also held for the students.

The commemoration was attended by the highest officials of Republika Srpska and Serbia, including the President of Republika Srpska, Milorad Dodik, the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, the Serbian member and Chairwoman of the Presidency of BiH, Željka Cvijanović, the Prime Minister of Republika Srpska, Radovan Višković, ministers from the governments of Republika Srpska and Serbia, and the Speaker of the Serbian Assembly, Ana Brnabić.
