PETROVO, AUGUST 30 /SRNA/ - The president of the Republika Srpska Organization of Families of Captured and Fallen Soldiers and Missing Civilians, Isidora Graorac, stated that the process of searching for the missing should be returned to the entity level and pointed out that it is paradoxical that in the 17 years of the existence of the BiH Missing Persons Institute, not a single missing Serb has been found.
At the commemoration of the Day of the Missing and Fallen in the Defense Patriotic War in Petrovo, Graorac emphasized that Republika Srpska is still searching for 1,616 individuals, including around 1,000 civilians, which is a very large number.
"Thirty years have passed without new information about the missing, which is especially hard for their families. It is very important that these people are found for the purpose of prosecuting war crimes and everything that characterized the past war," Graorac told reporters.
She emphasized that today they gathered in Petrovo with families of the missing from across Republika Srpska to raise public awareness about the process of searching for the missing and urge institutions to advance the process.
"The process needs to be unblocked in any way, by establishing a new institution at the level of Republika Srpska," Graorac said, adding that around 570 bodies are in ossuaries.
The Day of the Missing and Fallen in the Defense Patriotic War of Republika Srpska is being commemorated today in Petrovo, organized by the Republika Srpska Government Committee for Nurturing the Tradition of Liberation Wars.
