PRIJEDOR, OCTOBER 14 /SRNA/ - The Government of Republika Srpska has adopted a decision declaring Radetić Tower in Prijedor a cultural monument, a movable cultural asset of great importance, the Republika Srpska Ministry of Education and Culture told SRNA today.

"Radetić Tower in Prijedor is one of the most significant and stylistically most distinctive buildings from the Austro-Hungarian period in the city. Its construction marked the beginning of Prijedor’s urban transformation into a modern Central European town. In view of its architectural, cultural and historical, and documentary value, it was proposed that Radetić Tower be declared a cultural monument, an immovable cultural asset of great importance," the ministry said.

The decision establishes protected zones and protection measures requiring the preservation of the building's authentic architectural and stylistic features and the prevention of further deterioration.

The protection measures also allow the building to be assigned a new purpose for cultural, educational, tourism and other activities that do not compromise the value of this cultural heritage site.

Radetić Tower, located on King Peter the First Street, was built between 1883 and 1885 for Wilhelm von Reitz, Prijedor's first district head. At the end of the 19th century, the estate was purchased by the well-known Radetić merchant family from Prijedor.
