BELGRADE, MAY 15 /SRNA/ – Attorney Toma Fila told SRNA that the Hague Mechanism is an anti-Serb court and wants Serb General Ratko Mladić to die in prison, which is contrary to all laws and international conventions.
"They want him to die in prison. They do not want to allow him to receive medical treatment while free. That is disgusting and contrary to all laws and international conventions," Fila said.
Fila stresses he first witnessed such treatment from the Hague Tribunal in 1996, when he was a member of the defence team for Serb General Đorđe Đukić, who was seriously ill with cancer.
He said that one night, when they realized there was no longer any chance he would survive, General Đukić was transferred from detention in Scheveningen to Belgrade, where he died shortly afterward.
Fila argued that such treatment in The Hague Tribunal has been reserved only for convicted Serbs and claimed that the Hague Tribunal was created to be anti-Serb.
"When they are certain, when Dutch doctors tell them that /General Mladić/ will not live to see Monday, then they would release him on Sunday," Fila said.
The Hague Mechanism yesterday rejected General Ratko Mladić defence team's request for release for medical treatment in Serbia due to his serious health condition.
