NOVI GRAD, APRIL 9 /SRNA/ - Member of the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH Jasmin Emrić stated today that any nuclear facility on the border with BiH would have negative consequences for life and the prospects of the region.
"We believe that any nuclear facility, whether a storage site or a disposal site, will have, and already has, negative effects. For more than 25 years, we have opposed this plan, and it has a negative impact because we are spending time and resources," Emrić said.
Emrić reminded that in 2016, the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH adopted a resolution opposing the construction of a radioactive waste repository on Trgovska Gora, at the Čerkezovac site, and emphasized the importance of the unified stance on this issue.
"Since 2016, many activities have been carried out to challenge the plan to store radioactive waste on the border with BiH," Emrić said at a thematic session of the Novi Grad municipal assembly.
He noted that so far there has been no understanding in Croatia, where authorities believe that there will be no negative cross-border impact, contrary to the arguments submitted by BiH.
He reminded that local authorities and civil society in Croatia also opposed these plans, but that this opposition is gradually weakening.
"We continue to oppose any form of nuclear facility — whether storage or disposal - on the border with BiH, as it would have consequences for life and the future of the region," Emrić said, adding that he hopes this will not happen.
