DODIK: WE WILL NOT GIVE UP ON BUILDING EMBANKMENT ON THE DRINA

BIJELJINA, OCTOBER 22 /SRNA/ – President Milorad Dodik says Republika Srpska will not give up on building the embankment on the banks of the Drina River outside Bijeljina, hoping that the local authorities will understand that this must be done.

"The key issue regarding the Drina is the construction of a flood embankment, to prevent high waters. It's a difficult process," Dodik told the press in Bijeljina.

He noted that Republika Srpska secured the funds 10 years ago, but the local government failed to resolve property - legal issues.

"We are paying interest on the funds we received from the World Bank for that embankment, and they have not given us the opportunity to proceed with the work. But we will not give up, and hopefully they will understand that we have to do this. We must never again allow this area to be flooded like it was in 2014," Dodik emphasized.
