JERUSALEM, JANUARY 26 /SRNA/ - SNSD President Milorad Dodik stated that during today's meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog, he would propose that the Sarajevo Haggadah be returned to Israel, noting that this work of Jewish cultural heritage in BiH has become a subject of political misuse.
Dodik emphasized that the Sarajevo Haggadah is not and must not be used as a tool for political confrontation - it is a witness to the history and culture of a people who survived persecution.
"Using the Haggadah as a symbolic tool against Israel deeply offends those who understand its significance to the Jewish people. The intention to use a replica of this treasured cultural work to fund Gaza represents the height of hostility toward the Jewish people," Dodik wrote on X.
In addition to Dodik, the delegation visiting Israel today includes Acting President of Republika Srpska Ana Trišić-Babić and Radovan Kovačević, a Serb member of the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH.
A meeting with Israeli President Isaac Herzog is scheduled for today, along with attendance at a lecture on Jewish philosopher and writer Ze’ev Jabotinsky.
President Herzog will deliver a speech, followed by a lecture from U.S. Ambassador to Israel Michael Dale Huckabee titled "An Unbreakable Alliance: A Legacy of Courage, a Future of Hope – Jabotinsky's Enduring Message in the 21st Century".
The Republika Srpska delegation will also attend the International Conference on Combating Antisemitism, which will be ceremonially opened at 19:30.
