DODIK: THE ASSEMBLY OF SERB PEOPLE MADE KEY DECISIONS FOR SRPSKA STATUS

BANJA LUKA, OCTOBER 24 /SRNA/ – The Assembly of the Serb People in BiH made key decisions for Republika Srpska status, said President Milorad Dodik at the ceremonial gathering marking the 34th anniversary of the founding of the Republika Srpska National Assembly.

Dodik emphasized that on January 9, 1992, the Assembly adopted the decision forming Republika Srpska, and later, in February, adopted the Constitution, along with a number of other important acts.

He stresses that the establishment of the Assembly of the Serb People is one of the most significant dates in history, an important historical day when the great figures of the Serb people, led by the leaders of that time, gathered and, in their own way, formed the highest legislative body.

“At that time, we clearly said that we would not allow any outvoting as was happening in the Assembly of BiH,” Dodik said.

He stressed that Serb representatives were determined to resist the outvoting of the Serb people.

“In difficult times, peoples survive only if they have brave and determined leaders. We had them,” Dodik said, adding that he is proud to have been present at that historic moment.

He added that at that time, everyone was united in proclaiming the Assembly of the Serb People, even though he himself was not a SDS member.

Dodik pointed to the efforts that existed at the time to create a Muslim state, if the Serbs lost their national identity, and added that the Serb people then fought for their freedom.

He emphasized that history has been difficult for the Serb people, recalling the suffering during the Second World War and the crimes that the communist regime later concealed.
