SOKOLAC, OCTOBER 20 /SRNA/ – The third lane on the road over Mount Romanija has been extended by an additional 500 metres beyond the originally planned length of approximately 2,000 metres to address a bend where traffic jams most frequently occur for vehicles travelling from the Podromanija direction, Dragan Buloščić, Technical Director of the Romanijaputevi road construction company, told SRNA.
Buloščić said the plan was to make the entire length of the third lane operational, weather permitting, so that cars and trucks unable to continue in winter conditions could pull over and free up the other two lanes.
"The additional 500 metres, which we agreed on with the road directorate, are extremely important. This is the half-kilometre stretch where a large number of vehicles could build up on the two lanes and potentially cause congestion. On this section, vehicles will be able to move into the third lane," Buloščić explained.
He noted that the work was progressing even faster than planned, despite being carried out without a complete closure of traffic.
"Allowing vehicles through under traffic-light control rather than closing the road completely slows our work down, but we are still ahead of schedule and progressing faster than planned," Buloščić stressed.
Buloščić said that in less than three months since work began, half of the project had already been completed and 60,000 cubic metres of rock had been excavated.
"We have excavated 60,000 cubic metres of rock, and we now need 12,000 cubic metres to fill and level the excavated section with the two existing lanes," Buloščić said.
