ZVORNIK, AUGUST 21 /SRNA/ - The two-volume book "Serb People in the Independent State of Croatia /NDH/ – Disappearance under the Cross, Mallet and Red Star," authored by historian Veljko Đurić Mišina from Belgrade, was presented today in Drinjača near Zvornik.

Đurić told SRNA that the book describes the fate of Serbs in the NDH in the context of the Partisan, that is, communist revolution.

Speaking in the parish hall of the Church of St. Deacon Avakum, Đurić explained that the first volume deals with Ustasha ideology, namely the Ustashas and their treatment of the Serb people, while the second focuses on the communists, their ideology, and their attitude toward Serbs and the Serb people.

"In these two volumes I opened many questions - from the collaboration of Ustashas and communists since 1941 to their joint actions during the Second World War, especially in these areas, the issue of Jure Francetić against Jezdimir Dangić, as well as the contacts between Ante Pavelić and Josip Broz Tito, and the cooperation of Andrija Hebrang, as a prominent Croat, with the Ustashas," Đurić said.

He emphasized that he also addressed how all of them viewed the Serb people, how they misused it for their own goals, and for the first time publicly raised the issue of the attitude of the Croatian Communist Party toward the Serb people in the NDH.

"When working on the book, I was guided by the words of Tanasije Mladenović, political commissar of the First Proletarian Brigade and a great Serb and Yugoslav writer 'We, Serb communists, betrayed the Serb people'”, Đurić said.

He added that the conclusion of his book is that communist ideology toward Serbdom must be confronted.

Đurić underlined that the problem must also be opened whether Yugoslavia in 1918, that is, the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes, was necessary for the Serb people, or whether it was a great mistake that cost Serbs in 1941 and 1991, while Croats resolved their national issues, obtained an independent state, and entered the EU and NATO.

"Serbia today is a colony, unlike Croatia which has its plans and programs, while we Serbs are still wandering," Đurić said, stressing that he tried to point out some long-term historical processes concerning the Serb people across the Drina, in the context of global politics.

According to the reaction of the audience and readers, Đurić noted, the book was well received, and a second edition is being prepared.

The publishers of the book "Serb People in the NDH - Disappearance under the Cross, Mallet and Red Star" are Veljko Đurić Mišina and the citizens' association "Most," Srebrenica-Skelani, while the book was printed by "Grafoprint" Gornji Milanovac.
