VIŠEGRAD, JUNE 26 /SRNA/ – American politician of Serb origin and former Governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich met today in Višegrad with the municipal mayor Mladen Đurević.

The meeting will focus on possibilities for cooperation, investment, and support for local development by strengthening ties with the Serb diaspora in the United States.

The meeting is also attended by one of the leaders of the Serb Movement in the USA, Ranko Ristić, as well as the CEO of the Hydropower Plants on the Drina company, Nedeljko Perišić.

Đurević thanked Blagojevich for including Višegrad as one of the local communities he is visiting during his stay in Republika Srpska.

Before the meeting, Blagojevich visited the Church of Saint Emperor Lazar, where the local clergy informed him about the history of this holy place.

On that occasion, priest Dragan Vukotić presented Blagojevich with an icon of the White Angel.

After the meeting, a tour is planned of Andrićgrad, the Mehmed Paša Sokolović Bridge – the famous Višegrad bridge – and a boat ride to the memorial complex in Stari Brod, where the guests will have the opportunity to learn about the historical heritage and natural beauty of the region.

Yesterday, Blagojevich visited Gacko, where he met with the municipal leadership, visited the Church of the Holy Trinity, and traveled to the village of Miholjače, where his mother’s family originates from.

He then went on to Trebinje, where he and Mayor Mirko Ćurić visited the Tvrdoš Monastery and the Monastery of Saint Basil of Ostrog and Tvrdoš in Mrkonjići.

Blagojević, a close associate of U.S. President Donald Trump, arrived in Republika Srpska on Sunday, June 22, at the invitation of Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik.

In recent days, he has met with the highest-ranking officials of Republika Srpska, to whom he has offered strong support.

After his meeting with Dodik, Blagojevich stated that he would inform U.S. President Donald Trump about what is happening in Republika Srpska, whose rights are being threatened by an unappointed bureaucrat.
