BEAVER CHEWS THROUGH SIX UNDERGROUND CABLES, CUTS POWER TO 1,600

PRNJAVOR, OCTOBER 12 /SRNA/ - A beaver severed all six underground cables on a section of a power line beneath the Banja Luka-Doboj motorway, leaving 1,600 customers without electricity from the Prnjavor village of Štrpci to Brstovo in the municipality of Stanari, Elektrokrajina said today.

"The fault on the medium-voltage power line at 9.30 p.m. last night was caused by a large rodent - a beaver which severed all six underground cables", the company said in a statement.

Repair crews are on site working to fix the complex fault.

Elektrokrajina said replacing the underground cables requires heavy construction machinery, slowing repair work and the restoration of normal electricity supply.
