BANJA LUKA, APRIL 3 /SRNA/ – The flood protection system in Banja Luka has been significantly improved and, thanks to technological progress and preventive measures, it is almost impossible for the 2014 flood scenario to be repeated, Dragan Babić, head of the Department for Civil Protection Affairs and Professional Territorial Fire and Rescue Unit of the Banja Luka City, told SRNA.
"That year was a teacher for everything that has been done over the past 12 years, and a lot has been accomplished," Babić said in SRNA podcast.
He emphasized that an advanced water-level monitoring system has been established, enabling continuous monitoring of the rivers in Banja Luka and timely reaction.
"We can monitor the entire Vrbas and Vrbanja rivers, and precisely for that reason we have data we can rely on," Babić said.
According to him, significant progress has also been made in coordination with the Bočac Hydropower Plant, which now has precise data on inflows and can react in a timely manner.
"The current situation is such that it is almost impossible for 2014 to happen again, precisely because with all the forecasts and monitoring of water inflows to the hydropower plant they carry out preventive activities, i.e. releasing water from the reservoir," Babić pointed out.
In the new episode of SRNA podcast, Babić also speaks about the work of the Banja Luka fire brigade, which has up to 10 interventions a day and has been significantly strengthened in terms of personnel and equipment in recent years.
The new SRNA podcast, featuring Dragan Babić as a guest, will be available tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. to subscribers of our service, on social networks and on the YouTube channel.
