ASSEMBLY REMAINS CENTRAL PILLAR OF LEGISLATIVE AUTHORITY

BANJA LUKA, OCTOBER 24 /SRNA/ – The Republika Srpsla National Assembly has remained the central pillar of legislative authority through the difficult years of war, the challenges of the post-war period, reforms, and modern processes, a place where policies are shaped, laws are adopted, and the foundations of Srpska’s development are established, said Prime Minister Savo Minić.

Minić has emphasized that today marks with pride 34 years since the founding of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska, an institution whose work, wisdom, and perseverance have laid the foundations of Srpska’s statehood and preserved its democratic spirit.

“On this day, October 24, 1991, the Serb people in BiH founded their own Assembly as an expression of political maturity, historical awareness, and determination to preserve peace, freedom, and their collective rights in times of uncertainty,” said Minić, who attended the ceremonial gathering marking the Assembly’s 34th anniversary.

He added that the Declaration proclaiming the Republic of the Serb People of BiH stemmed from that decision that was adopted on January 9, 1992, the act based on which Republika Srpska was born, containing all the elements of statehood, but also a clear aspiration that all disputes be resolved peacefully and in accordance with international law.

According to him, the Republika Srpska National Assembly is not only a legislative body, it is also the source of statehood and the guardian of sovereignty.

He stated that today is an occasion to express recognition to all deputies, employees, and officials of the National Assembly, as well as to everyone who, over the decades, has safeguarded the institutions, law, and order of Republika Srpska, as published on the Government’s website.

“It is our duty to continue on the same path - the path of responsibility, mutual respect, and strengthening of institutions. Only in this way will we ensure that Republika Srpska remains strong, stable, and proud—the way our predecessors created it, and the way our children deserve it,” Minić concluded.

On this day in 1991, the Assembly of the Serb People in BiH laid the foundations of the institution that would become the pillar of legislative authority in Republika Srpska. Thus began the process of establishing the institutions that would form the legal and political framework of Republika Srpska.
