ISTOČNO SARAJEVO, JANUARY 5 /SRNA/ - On Christmas Eve, on the eve of the greatest Orthodox holiday, Christmas, in 1994, Muslim units from Sarajevo launched an attack on the defense lines of Srpsko Sarajevo, but their intentions were thwarted by the strong resistance of Serbian fighters.
Through the rapid consolidation of Serb fighters who were positioned in front of their homes near the defense lines, strong resistance was provided and the enemy's plans were prevented, the Veterans' Organization of Istočno Novo Sarajevo stated.
In the heavy fighting that lasted throughout the day, the enemy suffered significant losses.
Serbian fighters managed to preserve the defense lines, but on January 6, 1994, at the Jewish Cemetery and in Kovačići, the following fighters gave their lives for Republika Srpska: Zoran Glišić, Mira Trifković, Manojle Tuševljak, Rodoljub Knežević, Slobodan Vasić, as well as Russian volunteer Viktor Desyatov.
Fifteen fighters and civilians were wounded, while at the Kula defense line, fighter Drago Vasić was killed.
"All these fallen comrades gave their lives to protect their families and their centuries-old homes. It remains our duty to preserve the culture of remembrance of our fallen comrades and all the battles fought during the Defensive-Patriotic War," the Veterans' Organization of Istočno Novo Sarajevo stated.
