ISTOČNO SARAJEVO, FEBRUARY 22 /SRNA/ – The 1992 Constitution of Republika Srpska represents the legal expression of the will and determination of the Serb people to endure in the area they have inhabited for more than a thousand years, historian Lazar Škobo told SRNA.
Škobo emphasized that, despite all the suffering, the Serb people accepted a concession that later formed the foundation of the Dayton Peace Accords.
“Our people, who controlled a much larger territory than the one defined by the Dayton Peace Accords, agreed to Dayton solely for the sake of peace. However, we now see messages suggesting that even this is not enough and that new concessions are being sought,” Škobo stressed.
Republika Srpska, Škobo says, represents the absolute minimum the Serb people could accept given their history and suffering, and it was the final possible concession in this region.
“The 1992 Constitution is nothing other than the expression of that aspiration, that despite all the suffering and sacrifices, we endure and persist,” Škobo emphasized.
