WORLD WAR II BOMB DISCOVERED IN BELGRADE'S PALILULA CONSTRUCTION SITE

BELGRADE, SEPTEMBER 28 /SRNA/ - A German World War II aerial bomb weighing about 250 kilograms has been found at a construction site in Belgrade's Palilula municipality and is scheduled to be destroyed on October 4, Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dačić said today.

Dačić said it was a German general-purpose aerial bomb containing around 130 kilograms of explosives.

He stressed that, given its characteristics and the fact that it is fitted with an electric fuse, the bomb must be destroyed at the site where it was found, the Serbian Interior Ministry said in a statement.

Dačić said the bomb was scheduled to be destroyed on Sunday, October 4, at 6.00 a.m., adding that an operational headquarters had been formed to monitor and coordinate the activities of the relevant services.

He announced that residents within a 150-meter radius of the site would be evacuated and provided with temporary accommodation.

The operation will also involve temporary restrictions on movement and access to the area while the work is under way.
