BELGRADE, MAY 14 /SRNA/ – Serbian Minister of Justice Nenad Vujić said in a statement to SRNA that the decision of the Hague Mechanism not to allow General Ratko Mladić to receive medical treatment is an absolutely political act, and that he will write to the UN Security Council and file a lawsuit against the President of the Mechanism, Graciela Gatti Santana.
"I will take all measures and again write to the UN Security Council and present the conduct of the President of the Mechanism", Vujić said.
According to him, when reading the full text of the decision, one might initially think that someone had decided to allow the general to be transferred for treatment in Serbia, because it states that both Dutch doctors, as well as Serbian and neutral doctors, confirmed that his condition is very serious.
"And in the end you have a decision in which someone refuses to send a person for adequate medical treatment. That is clearly ripe for filing a lawsuit and a complaint to the Human Rights Committee, which we have already announced", Vujić stressed.
Vujić said that anyone who is aware of the existence of torture and inhumane treatment is responsible for such conduct.
"It is evident that the President of the Mechanism is aware of the general's serious health condition, that he is at the end of his life", Vujić said, adding that Santana had previously indicated that Mladić would be released when he reached that stage.
As he stated, Mladić's condition is getting worse and worse because there are no adequate conditions for his treatment in the Hague Tribunal prison hospital.
"Santana continues to refuse to provide adequate care, which indicates the existence of elements of serious criminal responsibility", Vujić said.
