BELGRADE, OCTOBER 25 /SRNA/ - Aleksandar Vučić, the lead candidate on the "United Serbia" list, said that Serbia was deciding today which direction to take — toward the future or back to the past.

"I hope the elections will proceed in an orderly and peaceful manner," Vučić told reporters after voting in New Belgrade.

He said that Serbia was deciding today whether to move into the future or return to an era of predatory privatizations, economic devastation of the country, and political humiliation of both the nation and the entire state.

"You can win or lose elections. We will always act responsibly. If we lose, we will acknowledge the will of the voters; if we win, no one will take our victory away from us," Vučić emphasized, adding that the results would be known at around 10:30 p.m.

Asked by Croatian journalists whether he would change his rhetoric toward Croatia, Vučić said he hoped Serbia and Croatia would have better relations in the future. However, he said this would require Croatia to interfere less in Serbia’s electoral processes and domestic political affairs, to stop insulting Serbia on a daily basis, and to show respect for Serbia, in which case Serbia would show respect toward Croatia as well.

"Just wait, you Croatians, be patient a little. These are Serbian, not Croatian elections. Be patient a little; I know you care about these elections," Vučić said, adding that one only had to open any Croatian newspaper, news portal or television channel to see insults, lies and direct interference in Serbia’s election campaign.

He said they should first wait and see what the results would be.
