WASHINGTON, JUNE 20 /SRNA–Reuters/ – The U.S. military has rejected Iran’s claims that the Strait of Hormuz has been closed, stating that the waterway remains open and that American forces are monitoring the situation to ensure it stays that way.
“Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz,” Tim Hawkins, spokesman for the U.S. Central Command, told Reuters.
He added that maritime traffic is continuing without disruption and that U.S. forces are monitoring developments to ensure it stays that way.
Earlier, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that the strait had been closed and warned vessels not to approach the area, raising new doubts about the future of the U.S.-Iran ceasefire agreement, which was intended to pave the way for comprehensive peace negotiations.
