RUBIO: I HOPE TO VISIT SERBIA SOON

BELGRADE, SEPTEMBER 23 /SRNA/ - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said today that he hopes to visit Serbia soon and that the strategic partnership between the two countries will be deepened.

Rubio reminded that the current US administration had taken steps to advance cooperation with Serbia.

“I know that representatives of the State Department and other government agencies have already visited the country. I hope I will also have an opportunity to visit,” Rubio told reporters on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session in New York.

He stressed that the US wants to deepen its strategic partnership with Serbia and intends to do so while also addressing some potential issues that may arise.

Rubio stressed that the administration of US President Donald Trump remains committed to deepening relations, although, as he noted, Serbia is “involved in some issues that are potentially problematic and explosive” and are the subject of international attention.

He added that a broader effort by Washington to strengthen ties with Belgrade is under way.
