PODGORICA, OCTOBER 6 /SRNA/ - A person has been hospitalized at the Clinical Center of Montenegro after repeatedly using a weight-loss drug without medical supervision.
The substance was retatrutide, which the patient said had been obtained online and is still undergoing clinical trials and has not been approved for public use, the Clinical Centre of Montenegro said.
The patient was admitted to the Cardiology Clinic. Doctors said the hospitalization was not a direct consequence of using the drug, but that its use may have contributed to the deterioration of the patient's health.
The Clinical Centre said an additional concern was that doctors had no reliable information about the composition of the product used by the patient.
It warned that products obtained outside legal channels may have unverified ingredients, quality and origin and may contain substances not listed on the packaging.
Doctors urged people not to take any medication on their own without first seeking advice and a recommendation from a healthcare professional, regardless of the reason for taking it, Montenegrin media reported.
Particular caution is needed with products that are not registered or approved for use, or which are obtained through social media, the internet or other illegal channels.
