BANJA LUKA, OCTOBER 12 /SRNA/ - International rules protect voting rights and prohibit discrimination against people with dual citizenship, meaning that Serbian citizens living in BiH cannot be denied the right to vote, law professor Ljubinko Mitrović said in a statement to SRNA.

Responding to calls by some parties and individuals from FBiH and Serbia to prevent BiH citizens from exercising that right in Serbia's upcoming early parliamentary elections, Mitrović recalled that the two countries have a dual citizenship agreement that entered into force in 2003.

"A ban applying exclusively to Serbs from BiH who hold Serbian citizenship would raise an extremely serious issue of equality of voting rights, which is protected by international rules, and therefore should not be called into question," Mitrović said.

According to him, between 11,000 and 12,000 BiH citizens with dual citizenship voted in previous elections in Serbia.

Serbia's early parliamentary elections will be held on October 25.
