DANILOVGRAD, SEPTEMBER 11 /SRNA/ – A helicopter belonging to the Montenegrin Army is fighting a wildfire near Ostrog Monastery, while the holy site itself is not threatened, said Aleksandar Grgurović, Danilovgrad Municipality Mayor.
He said the fire broke out last night and is located about one kilometer flight route from the monastery, adding that the competent authorities are taking the necessary measures to bring the fire under control.
"The terrain is inaccessible and prevents firefighting crews from operating efficiently from the ground, which is why a Montenegrin Army helicopter has been deployed to fight the fire. Protection and rescue services from Nikšić and Danilovgrad are also on the ground," Grgurović said.
He expressed confidence that the forecast rainfall would help bring the fire under control during the evening.
Goran Tripković, commander of a unit within the Nikšić Protection and Rescue Service, said firefighters had been on the ground throughout the night.
