SPLIT, OCTOBER 15 /SRNA/ – Fans of Split-based football club Hajduk, known as Torcida, chanted "Auschwitz!", "Get up, Adolf!" and "Crush the Jews!" as they marched towards Poljud Stadium with a car carrying a coffin with the inscription "Ajax" at the head of the procession, where a match against Dutch club Ajax is taking place this evening.
Torcida fans also chanted "Come on, come on, Ustashas!" and later sang: "I fire up the blast furnaces, three rows of coke, four Jews. The Jew screams — aaa!", Croatian news portal Index reported.
Split is reportedly under heavy police surveillance ahead of this evening’s match between Hajduk and Ajax, which is scheduled at 6:45 p.m. at Poljud Stadium.
Following several days of incidents and major disturbances on the Riva waterfront last night, police deployed additional forces and announced heightened security measures.
Around 1,900 Dutch fans and several thousand Hajduk supporters are expected in the city today.
The most serious incident occurred at around 11:30 p.m. last night, when approximately 500 troublemakers gathered on the Riva waterfront, including around 200 Dutch fans and 300 local supporters.
Around 100 police officers were at the scene, with another 100 joining them shortly afterwards.
