ZAGREB, OCTOBER 16 /SRNA/ – The Israeli Embassy in Croatia said it was deeply shocked by a serious antisemitic incident in Split, where fans of the city's Hajduk football club, known as Torcida, chanted "Auschwitz!", "Get up, Adolf!" and "Kill the Jews!"
"We are deeply shocked by the serious antisemitic incident that took place in Split yesterday and condemn it in the strongest possible terms. Such incidents must be unequivocally and decisively condemned by all relevant authorities at every level," the embassy said.
It expressed gratitude to the Croatian government and Sara Lustig, the prime minister's special adviser on Holocaust issues, for their swift response and clear condemnation of the incident.
"We are confident that the relevant authorities will act swiftly and decisively on this matter," the Israeli Embassy said, as quoted by Croatian news portal Index.
Last night, as they made their way to Poljud Stadium for a match against Dutch club Ajax, Torcida fans chanted "Auschwitz!", "Get up, Adolf!" and "Kill the Jews!" A car carrying a coffin marked "Ajax" led the procession.
They also shouted "Come on, come on, Ustashas!" and later sang: "I fire up the blast furnaces, three rows of coke, four Jews. The Jew screams - aaa!"
