EIGHT SERBS ARRESTED SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR ON CROATIAN INDICTMENTS

PODGORICA, DECEMBER 27 /SRNA/ – Eight Serbs from Croatia and the former Republika Srpska Krajina have been arrested since the beginning of the year on charges of war crimes, the latest among whom, Milorad Kovačević /61/, was arrested by Podgorica police in Zeta, in the village of Bistrica, the Veritas Information and Documentation Centre announced.

According to Veritas records, at least 203 Serbs have been arrested worldwide, of whom 84 have been extradited to Croatia.

Currently, 28 Serbs are being held in Croatian prisons for war crimes, 15 of whom have been sentenced by final verdicts, while the others are under investigation, indictment, or awaiting the finalization of verdicts.

Kovačević, who was arrested yesterday, is being wanted by Croatia in order to secure his presence in criminal proceedings being conducted against him on suspicion of having committed a war crime against civilians. He was brought before an investigative judge of the Higher Court in Podgorica for further proceedings, according to Veritas.
